Viva Espana
This year, summer in Bavaria doesn`t even exist. In August, we decided to look for summer and packed our van with climbing gear, surfboards and a canoe. We finally found what we were looking for at the North Coast of Spain, a Region called Asturias.
Lots of Surf spots, lonely beaches, some really nice rivers and the famous Picos de Europa, just one hour away from the ocean.
We spent 4 great weeks at the "Costa verde", named by the Spanish people. After one week, i stopped checking the weather forecast, because every single day was bluebird sky.
So we got into a really relaxed Rhythm. 4 days of climbing in the Picos, back to the Ocean with 3 days of surfing and so on. Some days i spent fishing trouts in the rivers.
One day, we packed our canoe and paddled down a really nice River all the way down from the mountains directly into the ocean. Thousands of atlantic salmons were on the way up the rivers and it was a great experience for us to see one of the last places in Europe were this really special natural wonder takes place.
Finally, we climbed the Naranjo de Bulnes, the most famous mountain in the Picos de Europa. This really huge limestone peak looks like the Cerro Torre in Patagonia. The easiest way up is a grade 5 UIAA Scale trad climb with 7 Pitches and some scrambling up the ridge. As we had a cosy bivouac near the South face, we were the first climbers at the summit. Special moments with beautiful vistas to the atlantic coast and no other climbers around.
Asturias, a place to relax and let your spirit soar.
