Biography:
In December 1990, I strapped on my first pair of free heel skis for two week NOLS Winter Camping Course in WY. I was 20. My heels had been locked down since age 2. I was one of 2 girls. I had never been winter camping. And it was minus 30 everyday. After this trip, I didn’t think I had what it took to be a guide. Although I was hooked on the free heel thing. A year later, I found myself in Breckenridge, CO chasing my guy friends down the slopes and skinning to the local backcountry cabins. Searching for avenues to push the level of my skiing, I entered the local Tele comps and joined the big dogs at Alpine Free Skiing comps until the Free Heel specific Events hit the circuit. My results in both arenas earned my titles and long lasting relationships in the outdoor industry. In an effort to share my skills and to increase female participation in backcountry related sports, I birthed Babes in the Backcountry. Programs offer women an opportunity to get out and explore the backcountry in a safe, fun, educational and comfortable environment with all female guides. Demo gear and education on the proper backcountry equipment is an integral part of the program to introduce and educate Babes on what are key backcountry items needed to travel safely, comfortably and efficiently.
