Athlete Profile

A globe-trotting professional backcountry snowboarder, Sean loves nothing more than exploring remote mountains, including recent expeditions to Romania, Tasmania, Iceland, Bulgaria, Antarctica and more. He and his wife also run a nonprofit organization called Riding On Insulin, which hosts ski and snowboard camps for kids living with diabetes all over the world. As an athlete with type 1 diabetes himself, the cause hits home.

• Favourite G3 Gear Alpinist Splitboard Skins - Secure nose and tail clips give me security in knowing that my equipment is working fully the way it should.  Fast and easy transitions, especially with the G3 Love Glove so that I can get back to riding. • Favourite Peak Countless un-named peaks in Iceland.  However, two Islands of Antarctica that stand out the most are Livingston Island and Greenwich in the South Shetland Islands.  Peak after peak with aesthetic lines and outstanding vistas with wildlife such as penguins, whales, and seals.
• How'd You Get Started Backcountry Snowboarding I had been competing professionally in racing (boardercross, PSL, and PGS) with sights set towards the Olympics.  I then got burnt out on the entire competition scene and was seeking to continue being inspired by snowboarding for the original reasons that I first got involved with the sport.  I started taking time off the race hill and away from competitions in order to find more and more powder.   I fell in love with the sport again from the new sense of freedom that was found by earning my turns.  I now had time to process my daily thoughts while climbing peaks with friends and sharing the experience.  I could also distance myself far away from resort hustle and bustle.  I found new challenges and experiences that could not be found anywhere else.  It was also a bonus as I did not have to wear a speed suit or keep track of when my next protein shake was due (haha).  I now pursue this love of riding full time while testing my abilities in the world's most remote mountains from the Antarctic to the Arctic and get to experience unique global cultures that schooling could have never taught me.  It is now all about the life experiences and the friends I make along the way.  This is why I splitboard.
• Favourite Backcountry Accomplishment(s) First descents around the world on almost all continents.  Being recognized in person by NFL legend John Madden for my snowboarding achievements was pretty cool too. 
• Best Backcountry Advice Received  "Why ration passion? The time is now!" - Mountain Hardwear athlete, Mike Libecki.  Given to me on an expedition in the Antarctic.
• Snowboarding Bucket List Greenland, Baffin Island, Morocco - to name a few.  The rest are secret.
