G3 Genuine Guide Gear expands backcountry ski party
with new Rapid Transit, Ace and Aviatrix
Delivering serious performance in three distinct personalities, G3’s adds a super-fat freerider, an ultra-light climber and an all-mountain women’s ski to their acclaimed line up.
NORTH VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA January 23, 2006 Building on the strength and success of last season’s ski introduction, G3 Genuine Guide Gear is growing their backcountry party in 2006/2007 with unveiling of three new skis, this week at the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City.
Tested and refined, the growing G3 ski quiver now includes the big mountain Rapid Transit, the light-and-fast Ace, and the women’s-specific Aviatrix. As with all G3 skis, the new trio meets the demanding performance needs of backcountry guides as well as those who just want to ski like them.
“Every G3 ski answers a specific backcountry need,” said Oliver Steffen, president of G3. “But the common thread is that they’ve all been tested, turned and tweaked until they can meet the rigorous standards of professional guides.“
G3’s new ski offerings for 2006-07 include:
Rapid Transit: As the first super-fat asymmetric ride, the Rapid Transit rips through crud like an express train with a schedule to keep. The unique asymmetrical sidecut gives the outside edges a tighter radius than the inside edges adding edge control to the uphill ski for better maneuverability on hardpack and smoother transitions in the softer stuff. With a broad platform underfoot and a healthy 128 / 92 / 116 shape, the Rapid Transit delivers the stability and flotation skiers expect from a big mountain, big snow, freeride ski. Tip / Waist / Tail: 128 / 92 / 116 Lengths: 171cm, 178cm, 185cm
Ace: Made for gram counting climbers who refuse to sacrifice downhill performance, the Ace blends the all-terrain shape of the original G3 Baron with a lightweight, proprietary wood-core lamination for maximum weight savings. Weighing a pound per pair less than the high-flying Baron, the Ace (6.4lb / 2.9kg 177cm length) delivers crisp, solid arcs on the way down. Light on the feet, solid on the descent, the Ace is the best touring ski we’ve ever skied.
Tip / Waist / Tail: 116 / 81 / 104 Lengths: 163cm, 170cm, 177cm and 184cm
Aviatrix: A guide’s ski built specifically for women, the Aviatrix delivers incomparable versatility in the finest one-quiver backcountry ski on the market. With compact lengths, the Aviatrix serves up a sweet, round flex that’s appropriately softer for lighter passengers. Rock solid and snappy in the most demanding downhill conditions, the Aviatrix is plenty svelte for touring with a 116 / 81 / 104 sidecut.
Tip / Waist / Tail: 116 / 81 / 104 Lengths: 156cm, 163cm, 170cm
A superior choice for both AT and telemark set-ups, G3 skis were launched in 2004 with design support from backcountry guru Paul Parker a 22-year veteran of ski and boot design. The diverse G3 ski collection features seven distinct skis built with all-wood cores for long-lasting, snappy performance.
In all G3 skis, semi-cap construction delivers round flex underfoot and torsional rigidity throughout the ski, while tough top sheets and well-proven bases stay fast in a wide variety of temperatures and conditions. Ensuring durability and performance, substantial binding reinforcement on G3 skis supports both telemark and alpine touring (AT) bindings.
