Tuning Your G3 Skis

We are very finicky about our skis' tune. Properly tuned and waxed skis turn more easily, hold better, and make smoother transitions from edge to edge. We strongly recommend that you keep your skis tuned. G3 Skis are carefully tuned at the factory with a multi-step process that leaves the base smooth, flat, and properly structured. The edges are finished with a 1 degree bevel tip to tail. Out of the wrapper, we recommend de-tuning the tips and tails back to the running surface using a rubber stone. Skis perform better after they have had at least one tuning. This subsequent tuning takes care of the ski materials' stabilizing as they cure, shrink and generally settle down after production. We recommend tuning your skis after the first few times they've been skied, and certainly if you've found hidden treasures that burr your edges or scratch your bases. The magic words in your local tuning shop are "1 degree base and side-edge bevel tip-to-tail, detune the tips and tails, please." The base-edge bevel should go about an edge's width into the ski base, with the side-edge beveled 1 degree to keep the edge profile at 90 degree for durability and longevity. This tuning preference is nothing unusual. It's a standard, straightforward preference that we found to be what our skis respond well to. It's our recommendation for the widest variety of skiers; those of you who have specific preferences for tuning might want to start here and modify according to your experience.
