The Award-Winning TARGA Telemark Binding

De-Icing the TARGA Ascent

Follow the steps below to de-ice your Ascent bindings:

1. While in the tour position, slide the binding and ski backwards, raising your heel upward.

2. With your opposite hand, place your ski pole behind your leading knee and insert the tip of your ski pole into the actuator of the binding in question.

3. Tap (with force) the top of the ski pole, moving the actuator toward your little toe and into the ski position.

4. Reposition your pole to the outside of the ski and tap the actuator back to the tour position.

5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 once or twice to clear snow/ice build up.

6. With the actuator returned to the tour position, step down on the binding and move the actuator to the ski position.

7. Now with your heel down move the actuator back and forth once or twice to clear snow/ice build up from under the baseplate. In extreme cases of ice build up you may need to use a blade to clear ice from under the baseplate.

8. If you are still having difficulty repeat the above steps.

If you take any touring binding into a snowy environment, sooner or later you will experience some ice/snow build up. The TARGA Ascent binding was designed to clear the snow out of itself using the actuator and a ski pole with a small tip.  One hit (like you would a ketchup bottle) onto the top of the ski pole is usually enough to switch modes with the binding, even if there is some snow built up around the latch.
