CHOOSING YOUR ALPINIST SKINS
Alpinist Skins are designed to fit right out of the box. No more trimming to length or installing tip loops. There are four different Alpinist Skin lengths; each length will fit a range of skis. Consult the size chart to determine which skin length matches the length of your ski. E.g. If your skis are 171 cm you can select either a short or a medium length Alpinist Skin. To determine the width you require, read the section below about shaped and straight skins.

There are two schools of thought on the selection and fit of G3 Climbing Skins, shaped and straight. Read on to determine the best approach for you, then refer to the pdfs at the bottom of the page to find your skis and the recommended skin size to match. The charts contained within the Guide to the Perfect Fit pdfs will also allow you to determine the correct Tip Loop size for proper installation.

SHAPED
You can get maximum skin coverage by choosing a skin that is slightly narrower than the widest part of your ski, and trimming the skin to the sidecut/shape of your ski, as described in the skin instructions. The extra work required to trim will more than make up for itself with the superior grip of a skin with "wall to wall" coverage, especially important for icy side hilling.

Choose a skin that covers your ski base "wall to wall" (edge to edge) about 25cm (10in) back from the ski tip. E.g. If the dimensions of your skis are 115-77-105, a pair of 110mm skins will do nicely.

STRAIGHT
To avoid trimming, choose a skin to fit the narrowest part of your ski. This set-up is lighter, glides better and eliminates the possibility of contaminating exposed glue when storing skins. Straight skins are also easier to fold for packing and storage.

If the dimensions of your skis are 115-77-105, a pair of 70mm skins will do the trick.

Each pair of G3 Complete and Tail Less Climbing Skins is equipped with a G3 Trim Tool and specific instructions for fitting your skis.
