Backcountry skiers have long had to decide between a lightweight ski that performed poorly downhill or a powerful downhill ski that was heavy and cumbersome on the up. For the SENDr we set out to design the best balance of lightweight and powerful downhill performance for big lines in the backcountry. The process included challenging the norm for every material that goes into a ski. We tested all sorts of materials, lay-ups, camber and shape profiles, and everything else we could think of. The result is best-in-class performance to weight and a truly dialed big mountain ripper.

PU SIDEWALLS: WHAT IS POLYURETHANE?

Polyurethane (or PU) is an elastomeric polymer material known for its energy absorption, durability, and elasticity. It is commonly used in skateboard wheels and racecar bushings to make for a smoother ride.

NO MORE CHATTER An inherent problem with carbon and ultralight touring skis is chatter, due to the light and stiff materials used. PU sidewalls counteract this chatter by absorbing that extra energy and creating a more damp ride overall.

DURABILITY & VERSATILITY The elasticity of PU increases durability by 30% improving protection from sidewall impact when compared to ABS. Using PU in ski construction also allows for a permanent bond to the wood core and a seamless sidewall.

The profile of the SENDr is engineered as a balance of power from the flat positive camber and smearability from the early rise tip and tail. Drifty & fun for powerful lines in deep powder, but able to hold a strong edge on hard pack.
