Good Times at Mt Baker Splitfest

After a beauty weekend of backcountry riding at Mt Baker, WA, G3 employee Eric Simon was chompin' for more. When he saw the Mt Baker Splitfest on the calendar 2 weeks later, he grabbed fellow G3 snowboarder Mike Coletti and ambushed the event with style. Here's his update...

The event kicked off on Saturday with bluebird skies and blower powder on the N and NE faces of Table Mountain. We hit the chutes and slopes above Bagley Lakes then a steep, face-shot filled run down Pyramid Trees. We finshed the day of riding with one more run down the steep chutes above the lake before heading back to Glacier.

Saturday night was a gong show at Chair 9 with a capacity crowd eager to see the latest and greatest split boards and split board accessories before buying tickets for the great raffle prizes (splitboards, backpacks, beacons and loads of other gear).

Sunday was another beauty bluebird day, though the easily accessible slopes were getting a little tracked out and the skin tracks were slick from the throngs of split boarders occupying the playground that is the valley encircled by Table Mountain, Herman Saddle and Austin Pass. After grouping up with some Canadian splitboarding ladies, we made our way back up to the chutes above Bagley lakes to slash a few more turns before having to retrieve our demo boards and a few cold ones with the Spark boys in the parking lot. All in all it was a great success. Everyone was keen to get a glimpse of G3's new Black Sheep splitboard, and the lucky few who tried them had a great time. And dare we forget, the raffle generated over $8000 for the Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center!
