Splitboarding 101 with Altus Mountain Guides
Earlier this month our friends at Altus Mountain Guides successfully pulled off their first Splitboard 101 camp. Great to see more splitters getting into the sport, and verteran splitters like Justin Lamoureux and G3 athlete Ross Berg educating the up 'n comers.
Conditions were anything but prime, with rain in the alpine, followed by crust on most aspects. But the snow was 'suprisingly pretty good for touring' according to Justin and the campers. "Not powder, but super grippy and totally ride-able."
The crew spent 3 days touring off Whistler Blackcomb while the guides threw down tonnes of knowledge. Avalanche rescue scenarios, skinning techniques, changeover tactics, map work and whiteout navigation, big mountain hazards and group management were some of the topics that were touched on. Everyone was SUPER stoked on learning and had a blast.
With goodies and treats from Arcteryx, Spark R & D, Clif Bar, G3, and K2 snowboarding everyone got hooked up and left with full stomachs.
It may have been their first camp, but not their last.
If you're a more advanced splitter looking to refine your skills, Altus will be hosting a more Advanced Splitboard Camp focused on big mountain terrain. That kicks off Feb 20. Check in with Altus Mountain Guides for more details.
