Home sweet sweet home!
After a few days of recovery, nice sleeps in a real bed (not a camper), it was time to go powder skiing! Being blessed with amazing mild and sunny temperatures we decided to go on a few alpine missions. One that has been on my check-list for a while was the Herman Couloir off Mt McDonald at Rogers Pass. The Herman Couloir is an aesthetic line we can see from across the valley, especially when up in the Hermit area.
That day the valley clouds were out but the sun was shining on all the peaks. Looking around as we made our was up NRC I was thinking to myself: "It was so great to explore new terrain with great friends in the States but wow is it ever pretty at home?!"
At the top of NRC, we had a quick ski down to gain the backside of McDonald. Reaching a narrow col, we decided to traverse the ridge to our destination where the Herman Couloir was awaiting with more then 1300m of amazing skiing. Getting there just as the sky was turning to pink, we enjoyed fabulous turns and big smiles.
The following day, Revelstoke’s local landmark was awaiting; Mt Begbie. With the same valley cloud floating around, we were feeling the urge to get above the clouds just to see the sun and our objective. With a good ski mountaineering pace, we reached the col in no time. The summit was not in the books for that day but we still had a good time playing on the ridge and skiing down to tree line and then deep in the forest. A quick 10 minute drive later, we were already back at home enjoying a great meal!
Home is sweet because nothing can really beat it!
